01:43 pm: What a party!
Halloween in Longmeadow is indeed a Very Big Deal. We didn't have quite as many trick-or-treaters as my neighbors thought we might, though it was over 500, and I over-bought candy (shocking!), so we ended up with leftovers. I had a wee panic when our first TOTs came just after 5:00, so I was a bit stingy early on. (I'd been told that the festivities didn't end 'til 10:30 or so, which was a bit of an exaggeration.) If I'd been generous from the beginning, I believe we'd've given all the candy away.

The street is closed down and filled with people, all having a marvelous time. There were tons of kids, from infants to teenagers, but everyone dresses in costumes (including all the teenagers and even many of the parents). One neighbor filled her yard with carved pumpkins (dunno if it was over a hundred, but it was certainly many dozen). Another family decorated for the tropics (palm trees, etc), then dressed up as bananas. Lots of people had dry ice (or fog machines, dunno), artfully draped "spider" webs, tombstones, scary music, orange lights, etc.

Teddy wouldn't trick or treat at the scary houses, but had a blast every place else. We went to a couple of dozen houses, then came home to see the people who came to our house. Peter and Teddy ended up sitting in the front entry way (or whatever you call it -- it's too small to be a porch, but there's room for a couple of chairs). Most people seemed to be sitting outside anyway. Too much bother to get up and answer the door every minute or so, I guess.

Teddy plans to buy the Sodor Power Crew with his candy buy-back money, though he'll have to supplement it with bribe money for wearing underpants.

What wonderful memories he'll have of your neighborhood, so obviously reveling in the joys of childhood and what they can do to camp it up!

Congratulations on the buy-back money, Teddy. And on the big-boy underwear!
