09:58 pm: could it be? has Teddy finally turned 4?
Yes, I know he's 3 months past 4, but suddenly he's acting, I dunno... nice. Sweet, charming, funny. I'd read that after the hell that is age 3, 4 is miraculously better, and I've been waiting for my miracle. Dunno if it was all the illness, or the move, or the cruddy weather, or if he was just taking his time getting there, but it's grand that he's being 4 at last.

He still puts me on time-out, tells me I'm mean/nasty/naughty, and has moments of being an absolute pill, but at least those are moments, or at most hours, rather than days or weeks.

He smiles and waves when I come to pick him up at school. He tells me about his day as he dances down the sidewalk (literally, today, as he told me about the Irish step-dancers he'd seen at school). Instead of fighting about taking off his shoes, he sits down on the step without being asked and cheerfully takes care of it. He tells me he loves me. He asks for snuggles. He says please and thank you. Tonight during our walk, he said hello to someone he'd never met and was excited - happily excited - to see a dog.*

It's like having my sweet two-year-old back, only without diapers and with much greater conversational skills.

I know this too shall pass, but I'm sure diggin' it while I've got it.

* Of course, he was then heartbroken when mean ol' Mommy made him come inside just because his hands were freezing and it was getting dark. But he got over it quickly and was laughing within minutes.

Just wondering

Is this the child you've been blogging about?

I've noticed changes, too, in the last week or so -- he's willing to talk to me on the phone (sometimes even excited to talk to me on the phone), always wants to know what room I'm in, what I'm doing, etc. Have you considered he might be a changling?

On the other hand, maturity comes to most children -- so enjoy every minute!

Happy Name Day, Teddy!

Love,

Grandma calls are very compelling indeed

He loves talking to you. I mostly let him call when he's interested, but he often has the impulse mid-afternoon, when I figure y'all are probably napping.

Hope

(Link)
Ok, so there is hope. Granted Nicolas is only a couple of weeks past 4 and he's been sick for the last week, but I was beginning to think that 4 was going to be WORSE then 3. And everyone had said that 4 would be better. You've given me hope.

3 kicked my ass; 4 is a gabillion times better

It just took Teddy a few months to settle into 4, I guess. He too was sick for his first couple of weeks (months, actually), and was discombobulated because of the move, too.

But 4 is niiice.
