01:04 pm: 30 Days of Truth: Day 12 → Something you never get compliments on
I never get compliments about my illuminating explanation of quantum physics, my amazing ukulele rendition of Mozart's oboe concerto, or my divine execution of Julia Child's liver pâté recipe. Because I don't understand quantum physics, play the ukulele (or the oboe), or make pâté (or eat it), I think those omissions are quite justified.

I do get lots of compliments at work, which make me uncomfortable but are mostly deserved, so I can't complain. And I get quite a few about parenting; I'm not sure whether I deserve them, but I neeeeed them, so I'll take all I can get.

So, um, what? Because I don't usually think I deserve compliments on much of anything (though perhaps not as little as I deserve them for physics, concerti, or pâté), I'll go with something I never hear any more.

I used to occasionally hear that I felt good to dance with, which meant the world to me. I'm not showy in any way, nor do I care to be, but I always wanted my leaders to find me responsive and fun and my followers to feel safe and that they had the opportunity to express themselves.

I haven't danced much at all since Teddy was born, so I don't deserve (or expect) those compliments, but I miss them. I do hope to dance more and I do hope I get to the point of feeling (and having my partners feel) real partnership.

Dance, dance, dance

I hope you'll find time -- and energy to dance. I never could except with your father, so it's perhaps a big reason you exist. So carry on, m'dear! Dancing's a good thing to love.

You're a follower who makes every leader feel (and look) good.

Grad school can be kind of a beast. I went part-time for 13? many years. I did dance for the second part of that, but I was, um, what's the word?

Insane. That's it. I had no life except work, school, and dancing.
