06:00 am: small steps or large leaps? I dunno.
Teddy wanted me to play with him instead of making breakfast.

"I want you to nutmeg pancakes please, Mommy."

"Nutmeg pancakes? I'm making apple pancakes."

After a moment's thought, and with no further prompting from me: "I want you to cancel making pancakes, Mommy."

"Oh! You want me to not make pancakes!"

"Yes, please."

"Sorry, I'm not going to stop now. But you don't have to eat pancakes if you don't want them."

* * * * *

Most of the time, I don't have to say "what do you say?" or even "annnnd"; Teddy adds "please" after a moment's pause.

* * * * *

He asked me to draw a truck. Right next to mine, he drew a truck, with two straight sides, a straight top, and two definite, round wheels.

* * * * *

He's started requesting snuggles with Daddy, not just Mommy. I love to see the two of them together.

* * * * *

Teddy was frustrated with something and said "Damn it!"

"What did you say?"

"I said 'damn it.'"

"Should you say that?"

He shook his head.

"What should you say instead?"

"Oh heck."

"That would be a good substitute."

"I don't want to say 'oh heck.'"

"How about... frazzlebottle?"

Much hilarity ensued.

* * * * *

He's also enjoying rhymes in new ways. When I was telling last night's story, about Teddy and Thomas and Henry going to bed, he roared at bed in the shed, and especially at the idea of Teddy going to beddy in the sheddy.

"Teddy doesn't go to beddy in the sheddy! Teddy goes to beddy in the bed!"

Silly Mommy.
