12:58 pm: That was no fun at all
That's Teddy's assessment of his eye trouble. He told Peter yesterday morning that his eye hurt. We thought maybe it was sinus pain (he has a cold), so we gave him an overdue Benadryl and some Tylenol. He ate a big lunch and had a long nap.

...and woke up screaming. He wouldn't open his eyes at all because they hurt. So we found a pediatrician (lovely, as it turns out - this was not how I planned to pick a new pediatrician), who rinsed out his eye (with some difficulty) and stained it. She didn't see any scratches, and by the end of our visit, Teddy was laughing and joking and opening both eyes with no difficulty.

We went to CostCo to buy candy for the 700 trick-or-treaters, had a gourmet dinner at Wendy's, and went home. Teddy played with his cooperation gift (a truck from CostCo) and went off to sleep.

...and woke up screaming. We rinsed his eye with saline solution, gave him a dose of Tylenol, and did lots of snuggling. He eventually went back to sleep in my arms.

...and woke up screaming. So we went to the ophthalmologist. He does have a scratch on the front of his eye (turns out the stain is numbing, so Teddy's behavior yesterday was because he couldn't feel any pain, not because his eye was actually any better). We need to put eye drops in four times a day for the next two days. That wouldn't be too bad, except for the wrestling match that ensues any time anyone wants to look at Teddy's eye (never mind put anything in it).

We've been very lucky: Teddy has been a very healthy kid. This was our first trip to urgent care.

And it was no fun at all.

Dd has her first snotty nose...

...not bad for 2% breastfeeding.

A snotty nose is stressful enough, I can't imagine a scratch on my babe's eye.

Hope Teddy feels better soon and that the 700 toter don't come all at once (or too late).

No fun

And I'm so confused this week (link to emails?) that while reading this, I was proud that you can spell ophthalmologist! It sounds totally nightmarish.

Re: ophthalmologist

Yabbut, with my years as an editor (in service to the blind, otherwise handicapped, college of optometry and major universities, as well as hospitals), ophthalmology is the most likely to be spelled wrong of any I can think of, so I'm not surprised that you did it right, just pleased, and I really meant to imply that with all that's going on, how weird of me to notice and comment. Okay?
