06:39 pm: more excitement than I wanted on a Sunday evening
I had a small kitchen fire while making dinner. Scared the crap out of me and Teddy.

Fortunately, Teddy's reaction was exactly right: running out of the kitchen, screaming. Peter came down and scooped him up and away, by which time the fire was out and the smoke detector had taken over the screaming.

Burner off, fire gone, windows open, smoke detector silent.

Thank goodness.

Dinner has been made and consumed, child is calm, mother is getting there.

That was no fun at all.

Next time I'm cooking frozen chicken fillets, I will definitely take the time to find the splatter shield before tossing them in the hot oil... and it may take a few weeks before I have the nerve to make another attempt.

...and it may take that long before we get all the soot off the white cabinets and appliances, too.

It didn't feel that bad at the time (it happened SO fast that I didn't even have time to think about it before it was over), but today every muscle in my body hurts. I assume it's the after-effect of the adrenalin rush, but I'm just making that shit up. :g:

Although this does remind me to look and see if we have a fire extinguisher under the sink.

If this can happen to you, it will happen to me. I love to cook and I don't always think about fire.

Oh The White Kitchen. That should be fun.

Keep breathing, your bp should drop sometime in the next few days. :)
