07:38 am: flop sweat
Yesterday was my first day as parent-reader at Teddy's school. I'll be going in every Thursday to read to his class for a half-hour or so.

Teddy selected Skippy Jon Jones and The Judge for me to read.

If I do say so myself (and apparently I do), Skippy Jon Jones was such a success that I didn't have time for The Judge. Instead, I did a rather rushed rendition of Oh Bother! Someone's Afraid of the Dark from the class shelves.

The kids loved my reading, which was very gratifying.

Especially since I was quite literally drenched with sweat by the time I finished.

I did lectures while I was at Oxford. I taught the Capability Maturity Model to over a hundred jaded, anti-social IT employees. I spoke to a teeny tiny audience at ISPI. I fought scary women on stage at the John Hancock Hall.

I have never sweat so much without heat and/or extreme physical exertion in my life.

'Cause 4- and 5-year-olds are really, really scary. If they didn't like my reading, they could've, y'know, ignored me. Or climbed all over my exhausted, sweaty body like a swarm of locusts. Or something.
