06:03 am: The scare I missed
I called home from Sibling Rivalry (best halibut I've ever had) to say good night to Teddy.

"I had a gigantic fit; Daddy slapped me over and over," he told me cheerfully.

While I suspected that this was not entirely true, I did ask Teddy to put Peter on the phone.

Unfortunately, I couldn't really hear much, and it took a couple of days before I got (most of?) the story. I do not like being at the other end of the state when I could/should/might have been able to help my family.

Teddy fell at school, as he does occasionally. He then threw up, which he's never done. He got very dizzy and turned white and his lips got a bit blue. (He also describes himself as having fainted, but that appears to be his shorthand for the dizziness.) One of his teachers carried him back to the classroom and called Peter to come get him.

Peter was on his way out the door anyway, as it was almost the end of the school day. Teddy appeared to have recovered fully by the time Peter got there. He walked to the car by himself, got home, finished his lunch, and life continued.

We think he got sick because he didn't eat or drink enough before playing in the hot sun. (Peter apparently had this experience several times as a child.)

In any case, he pitched a fit when it was time for his bath. He was scared that the water would hurt his boo-boos. I usually give him his bath, so Peter hadn't realized that I let him keep his knees (or hands or whatever) out of the water. A struggle ensued, as did a single spank.

While I like to think I would've found another way to handle it, of course I can't know for sure. Teddy's had very, very few really difficult episodes in his life, each at a completely different stage. The first, when he was about 15 months old, was resolved when I put myself on time-out (thus depriving him of the Mama attention). I don't remember when the next was, but I do remember that putting myself on time-out didn't work that time.

Teddy's had a couple of rough evenings since then, though he's settled down with time-ins after time-outs and hollering failed.

Maybe it's just as well that I wasn't there for The Episode. I doubt I'd be able to treat him normally if I'd witnessed that.

Egads.

Same thing here...

...in that dd doesn't have a rough time very often (annoying but not extreme) so how we deal with it is 'un-practiced'. What works and what doesn't isn't tried and true because it happens so rarely.

Don't like the dizziness though. Hope he's okay.

It's probably just as well that I missed it.

He seems to have forgotten it altogether. He hasn't mentioned it, in any case.
