08:56 am: in which Teddy's mind astonishes me yet again
Teddy woke up being a pill this morning.* He was stomping and yelling and generally being uncooperative.

I've been reading Stiffelman (more on that in a later post), so I tried harder than usual to find out why he was being such a scutch (sp?). He grumbled and whined. I prodded gently.

"What's going on, honey? Are you feeling overwhelmed this morning?"

"Yes! See? It's not sugared cereal that makes me obnoxious!"

"Are you being a pill so that I'll let you eat sugared cereal?" I asked, incredulous.

"Yes. Please?"

I have to give him props for either planning and executing such a sneaky argument, or coming up with it on the spot.

But I don't have to give him sugared cereal (which does indeed tend to set off foul moods).

* I admit to some bias because I have a vacation day and I really wanted to sleep later.

Sophisticated whiners

I'm so glad I got to parent in less-enlightened days. What I did know or read compulsively about was hard enough. And then there's the line at the end of most Dr. Spock chapters, which went "Of course, some children do not do this." Somehow, I think I never absorbed it when it might have helped.

Re: Sophisticated whiners

I think it's the nature of parenthood to rarely absorb it when it might have helped.

never from you!

Nor from anyone, yet.

And I suspect you're absolutely right. Shit.
