Teddy gets his first allowance tonight, if he does everything on his chore chart. He's been doing great - making Peter's coffee (pressing the button on the pot - his gimme chore), setting and clearing the table, watering the plant, and picking up his crap toys, books, and art supplies.

He'll be getting $5 a week, $1 of which goes to long-term savings and $1 to charity, leaving $3 for him to save or spend as he chooses.

The thing is, he wants to buy the Lego Batmobile, which costs $298. I've told him that he'll be 72/3 when he can buy it.

I trust he'll decide there is something more compelling before 2 years are up (or, y'know, 2 hours)... or he may decide he really, really needs the Batcave instead. That'll take 5 years.

I need a grandchild who's parsimonious. A little cheapskate. Toys are supposed to be trivial and inexpensive, for pete's sake. Guess I'm getting old. Good toys were always expensive. AAARRRGGGHHHH.

They *were* always expensive.

Cheap plastic crap remains cheap, however. You get those "free" with fat- and sodium-laden pseudo-food meals at fast-food restaurants. Yippee.
