05:58 am: 30 Days of Truth: Day 11 → Something people seem to compliment you the most on
Aw man. You know I hate these truthy days. I much prefer the "how you screwed up, were wrong, and are generally maladjusted" ones.

I love getting compliments, but I find them acutely embarrassing. I tend to remember the embarrassment but not the compliments.

OK. So.

What I tend to get complimented on is being smart. I don't think I deserve those compliments, but those are the ones I get. I think it's because I'm older than a lot of my friends, and the extra years of living give me a small edge.

...and of course I'm lots smarter about anyone's life other than my own.

{edited to add something I thought of later}

I do recall someone telling me, years ago, that I ought to run for office (obviously not anyone who knew me well, because he said it with a straight face), because it was clear that I actually thought about things before I offered an opinion. (And this guy was really, really smart and well educated; I was pretty intimidated by his enormous brain.)

That was the first time I realized that some people don't.** It blew my freakin' mind.

So maybe that has something to do with it too. I'm not sure.

* To all my FB friends: ha ha ha. Sh!t.
** Because I'm not very smart at all in some ways.

Did I miss something? Just on the 'smart' front: wasn't it you who took a GMAT or some other major test *for fun* and with no preparation?

And you're so much more than smart. Yes, you're older than me by at least one full year, however, the wisdom you have about life and the self-awareness you have and the ability to verbalize your growing self-awareness is what I love about you. Have I never said this to you? I'm sorry, I guess I was too busy being self-absorbed and blubbering about my sh!t.

I'd think this post of yours would have been much longer. Maybe bulleted points!

GMAT doesn't mean smart

Just means I'm good at taking tests. And I like them. Because I'm a freak.

But thank you. Your opinion means a whole lot to me. You've made me smarter (and I need it, all flattery aside).

(edited because my grammar is unreliable when I'm disconcerted)

Fine, you like taking tests...

..but even with cute little puppies presenting the questions and adorable little bunnies acting them out, I still can't answer the same questions. You have an amazing capacity of brain (just go with the sentence).

I don't believe I've made you smarter, I believe I've asked you to access your wisdom and explain theories and concepts in simplified terms. Wait, maybe I have made you smarter. Okay fine. You win.

You're welcome. ;)

And thank you. mwah

I couldn't answer questions with puppies and bunnies either

I'd be spending all my brain power on "awwwww! dem cute lil' puppiez and bunniez!"

Yes, I win.

And you're welcome too. MWAH.
