12:21 pm: 30 Days of Truth: Day 20 → Your views on drugs and alcohol
I don't really drink, mostly because I'm a total lightweight. Give me half a beer, and I'm ready for a nap (I'm also a very boring drunk - no dancing on a table with a lampshade on my head, no sobbing confessions of past transgressions (of course, I have no past transgressions (snicker))). I also prefer to chew calories before I swallow them. And I'm a bit of a control freak.

So I don't really drink.

I don't mind other people drinking, as long as they don't barf or bore me with sobbing tales of their own past transgressions (unless they have really interesting transgressions, of course). Dancing on tables is OK, especially now that tables so rarely have ashtrays on them. I suppose I feel a bit... condescending to people who get really drunk, which isn't very nice of me. It just seems like a juvenile past-time, y'know?

I'm not that crazy about wine (although I do seem to like really good stuff, which I'm too cheap to buy). I like champagne. I used to occasionally have a bit of Grand Marnier on the rocks. I like beer, but the good stuff has lots of calories (the light stuff is only good really cold on a really hot day - and I'd rather have Fresca or Diet IBC anyway).

 Just not my thing, I guess.

I also don't do drugs, and never really did. I hung out with a lot of potheads in high school, all of whom thought I would be hilarious stoned, but none of whom ever managed to save any weed long enough to make brownies (I can't smoke (anything), so that option was out). I had a whole bunch of different drugs prescribed to me for cramps - uppers, downers, and everything in between - and I never really understood why someone would voluntarily take them.

I also had serious relationships with a few different guys with drug or alcohol problems (they were so interesting, and they needed me, and I was an idiot), which tempered any desire I ever did have.

I do think pot should be legalized - controlled, taxed, sold in liquor stores (or the equivalent). I think 3 strikes laws for possession of any drug are ridiculous. They don't decrease use, they penalize users rather than sellers, and they crowd prisons with people who learn to be real criminals. Lose, lose, lose. Oh... and they take away resources (police, district attorneys) from crimes with victims. Another LOSE.

I do think that selling drugs to minors should be a one-strike offense, with automatic jail time upon conviction.

That's me. What do you think?
