07:35 am: Hoping for another chillin' weekend
Teddy and I took the train to Buffalo last weekend, which was... fine. The weekend was very low key; the only time we left the neighborhood was to go to Niagara Falls (which Teddy proclaimed was "BORING!", though I found it quite lovely - I hadn't been in at least 20 years and remembered nothing about it).

We hung out with my oldest friend, her boyfriend, and one of her sons (another made an occasional appearance; the other three were out of town or working). We talked, reminisced, solved the world's problems, puzzled over relationships, slept in, ate bad food, and talked some more.

Teddy played video games, read, ran around, and played more games.

Spending time with my friend was fabulous. The Falls were spectacular. The train rides were too long.

We knew it was a long trip (it's scheduled for 9-9.5 hours), but I thought it would be a great time for Teddy and me to hang out. He was very excited about being on the train (the commuter rail is fairly exciting, but Amtrak! with a seat that reclines! and a dining car! OMG!), but the novelty wore off pretty fast. I'd only let him play Nintendo/watch videos on the iPod/play Angry Birds for 30-45 minutes at a time, then made him do non-electronic stuff (explore the train, read, do activity books, talk to Mommy, etc.). He loved the electronic bits, but was less excited about the other parts.

So much for bonding, though we did get a little Angry Birds competition going.

And the trains were both late. And the food was not very good. And we were on the squishy car on the way back (commodious car on the way there).

I don't feel the need for any more long train rides. Next time, I'll drive.

Still, it was pretty fantastic having a weekend with only the occasional iPhone email to deal with (I didn't bring my laptop - and I survived!). I'm hoping this weekend will also be relaxed, though I head to Boston on Sunday. Next week's a tough one: 3 (LONG) days in the office, overnight guests Thursday (plus volunteering at the Book Fair at Teddy's school), friends coming on Saturday. Mostly good things - seeing family and lots of friends, celebrating a work project - but a lot of stuff in a short time.

not Monday -- Tuesday?

Monday's the big party to celebrate my 2-year project coming to a close (a bit premature - it's not quite over yet), so that night's out. Any chance you're free on Tuesday evening?

Sounds like fun! If I can possibly make it, I will.

My schedule is not entirely my own, however, so I may not know until the last minute... which probably works better for dancing than eating. Where's the dance?

I'll bring dancing clothes - which are different from my work clothes in that they are black and lightweight, versus black and medium-weight for work in the fall.

It would be SO great to see you! I hopehopehope I can get there!
