08:16 am: we're still heeeere...
The fitting's late today; the shoot is Friday. Pretty much the worst-case scenario.

And we couldn't stay for the same rate at the luxe Red Roof Inn (which really is very nice, contrary to my memory of RRI's being among the only motels cheap enough to stay on government per diem rates). Both Mum and Chris looked for another place, but Manhattan is apparently Booked to Its Rafters.

Uh huh, sure.

So we're paying an extra $100 a night to stay. Argh. Oh well, it is nice (and those "free" donuts are worth something, if not $100). And there's a coffee maker in the room! And a clock! I've never stayed at a hotel room that didn't at least have a clock, but neither previous room had one.

I had an epiphany of sorts last night, after we decided to stay: we don't want to be John. John was the ex-boyfriend with whom I traveled in Italy. John was... frugal. OK, cheap. Cheap, cheap, CHEAP. Wouldn't throw out wire coat hangers because they might be worth something some day cheap. More to the point, however, when we found that Venice was considerably more expensive than we expected, my instinct was "screw it, we're here, we probably won't get a chance to come back, this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, let's enjoy it." His was eating cheese and drinking diet Coke in the hotel room for every meal.

And I was an idiot, so we ate cheese and drank diet Coke.

It's not that this is our last time in NYC, by any means, but it's probably the one time that Teddy will have this opportunity. So screw it, we're here, and we're going to enjoy it. There's no chance that we'll break even (unless there are residuals, and they're a lot more than I would expect), but we'll have fun.

At least Peter and Teddy will, 'cause I still get to work.

Current Mood: okayokay

I just realized that your little emoticon thingy is similar to a particular bird that those of us on swingmonkey are fond of.
It made me laugh very loudly.
Also, my roommate is now hooked on the Diana Gabaldon books.

no wait -- yes I did. That's it! I planned it that way.

and most excellent news that the Gabaldon fever is spreading...
