07:55 pm: hello, Mother!
I was in DC for business for a couple of days (took the train to save money - baaarf), so was stuck with a couple of calls a day to talk to Teddy.

The first night, he got on the phone and said "hello, Mother!" quite cheerily.

I've been Mom, Mommy, Mama, Mumumum, ENYA, and NURS, but I have never been Mother. Until now.

Fortunately, he got over it by the next phone call. He and Peter had giggle fits tonight, remembering it.

Hardy freakin' har har.

Be thankful for "cheerful" :-)

My boys do that sometimes too. It's funny how your "name" (mom/mama/mommy) changes as your kids grow older. My least favorite is the Marrrrmmm! which must be said with a bit of whine and distaste included. Aaron is changing right now, and I'm relishing every little moment of babyhood he can muster. :-) Lori

well, yes

Cheerful is good. Teddy already had that "you're an idiot" tone to "Mo-om" when was about 18 months old. I think it was because I called a digger a backhoe or something.

Re: well, yes

Oh no! Using the wrong terminology for a construction vehicle is almost punishable by death! We had books that contradicted each other (is it a backhoe or an excavator? depends on which book you read...).

So I suppose I should be thrilled with the relatively minor punishment of snark and condescension.
