07:00 pm: News in Brief
That's brief news, not a brief blog. Duh.

Teddy's burns are mostly healed. The scabs are gone, so he's no longer chewing them (thank goodness... BLECH). He still has a little cough, but only if we forget to give him Tylenol and rub his chest with Baby Vapo-rub before bed.

One of his recent vocalizations is a wonderful trill. I don't know if he thinks he's Czech (ž sounds almost like a Scottish burr to me) or a purring cat, but it's a lovely sound. Unlike, say, the sound he uses to say he's thirsty, which is quite unlovely (sort of a cross between a grunt and a scream).

Now that we've turned his car seat around (though the timing could be a coincidence), he talks in the car all the time, as if to join in the conversation he missed for his first year.

Teddy's still clapping and dancing a lot, which is enormous fun. If he's particularly groovin', he'll hold on to a door frame and shake his booty every which way.

One of his favorite games these days is "chase the tickle monkey," in which he deliberately starts to do something he's not supposed to do (like moving away from me on the sofa, or crawling toward the edge of the bed), then looks over his shoulder to make sure I'm watching him. His smirk tells me he wants me to chase him and tickle him.

If I stop too soon, he'll put my hands back on his belly to tickle him some more.

He also runs to a particular corner of the bedroom if he wants us to chase him. Unlike the tickle monkey game, it's not a matter of going someplace he knows he's not supposed to go... it's more as though he's decided that's the corner where he'll end up, so he might as well start there. Not much of a chase, but lots of fun nonetheless.

I'd memorized Good Night, Moon long ago; Brown Bear, Brown Bear and Fuzzy Fuzzy Fuzzy now take up valuable memory as well. That's because Teddy likes to sit in my lap while I read them over and over and over.

Sleep is about the same. Some nights are quite good (1 or 2 wakings to nurse), some less so (all night nursing). He is definitely hungry, not looking to be entertained or cuddled or whatever. I find it very confusing on nights where he ate all day (not so confusing on days where he was a fussy eater).

He seems to wake up ravenous every morning -- even on nights when he nursed every couple of hours, he's slurping at 6:30 as if he hasn't eaten all night.

Brilliant, I want one!

And then I read about every day stories of awesome kids... and I want one! So if you want Teddy to have a brother or sister, keep the stories coming... while before they were my birth control, now they're my foreplay!
