06:30 pm: Neighborhood Adventures
We went for a walk with OC today, ostensibly to check out the ever-present Barn Sale around the corner (every Saturday and Sunday during the warmer months), which I'd somehow avoided for 11+ years.*

Teddy thought this was a Great Adventure, with many exciting sights to see... like ants and sticks and pinwheels and oh my goodness gracious a CAT PLANTER (that's a planter shaped like a cat, not -- as far as I know -- a planter for cats). Yeah, baby!

For some reason, he spat at a fire hydrant. It wasn't my idea. It sure wasn't OC's idea. Teddy seems to have dreamed that one up all on his own. Weird.

Anyway, it was definitely A Good Time. Such A Good Time, in fact, that all he's wanted to do since is go for MORE WALKS PLEASE. Even without OC, who's one of his very favorite people, walks are now his favorite thing... even better than trucks. Truck Truck TRUCK. We hear a lot about trucks.

* And apparently my instincts were correct: it's wicked expensive and the stuff ain't that great. Oh well.

Oh Crap

I am so sorry. I just wanted to wear the kid out. Didn't think it would be an every hour occurrence. Um, sorry :)

no worries!

Please don't get me wrong: we (all) love going for walks. I'm thrilled that Teddy wants to be outside and to explore and all that great stuff.

It's more about achieving a balance... being outdoors as much as possible... being as active as possible... but not in my pajamas and also, frankly, not at Teddy's every whim. He has some reason to believe he is the center of the universe, but [whispering] he's not.[/whispering]

We don't want to punish him for wanting to run around outside, of course. But what do you do about a kid who's being obnoxious about getting what's good for him? "NO! You must eat dessert! No more veggies for you, kiddo!"

um... no. But what?
